The APS256XXN-OB9-BG is a 256 Mbit PSRAM on the Xccela interface. Xccela is a high-throughput octal bus designed for memory that has to move data quickly and continuously, which is the pattern a frame buffer produces — an image sensor writes a frame, the processor reads it, and the cycle repeats at the frame rate. The density and bus width together are what make it usable for edge AI vision workloads.
Overview
The APS256XXN-OB9-BG is a 256 Mbit PSRAM from AP Memory organised as 32 M x 8 bits in X8 mode or 16 M x 16 bits in X16 mode, with 2048 bytes per page. It runs from a 1.62 – 1.98 V supply for both core and IO, and supports the Octal Peripheral Interface (OPI) and Hexadecimal Peripheral Interface (HPI) with two bytes or two words transferred per clock. Clock rate reaches 250 MHz.
Standby current is 40 µA typical at 25 °C in HalfSleep mode, with a stated maximum of 680 µA at 85 °C and 1100 µA at 105 °C. A data strobe (DQS) supports high-speed reads and a reset pin is available on some packages. The device is supplied in BGA 24-ball and is aimed at frame buffers and memory expansion in embedded designs.
