Angle Encoders

KTM5800

Manufacturer: CONNTEK

The KTM5800 handles angle subdivision for multi-pole-pair magnetic encoder systems. It takes the field signals from a multi-pole magnet ring and resolves them into a 30-bit angle, which is the approach used when a single pole pair cannot deliver enough resolution across a full rotation.

Overview

The KTM5800 is a 30-bit absolute angle subdivision encoder from CONNTEK designed to work with an external magnetoresistive sensor, AMR or TMR, to form a contactless encoder module. It accepts up to 4096 pole pairs of mechanical input and reaches 18 bits of subdivision per pole pair. Two 16-bit, 2 MSa/s SAR ADCs are integrated on the die, and the device runs from 3.3 – 5 V over -40 to +125 °C.

The output side offers ABZ quadrature at up to 36 Mbps (65,536 lines) and a PWM output at 973 Hz, with configuration over SPI. Sampling and filtering are adjustable: a deeper filter lowers noise at the cost of response time. The package is QFN32 5 x 5 mm, and MTP is available for storing calibration data.
