The HikStor MRAM series is the family the HS256K3SDS8C belongs to. Members share the same underlying magnetic storage cell and differ by density and bus interface. Because the write mechanism is the same across the family, a design that starts with one density can move within the series without changing how the software handles writes.
Overview
The HikStor MRAM series covers serial magnetoresistive memory from 1 Mbit to 4 Mbit in STT-MRAM technology. The devices are read and written over an SPI interface at clock rates up to 54 MHz with no write delay, so a byte can be updated as soon as it is addressed rather than through a page erase cycle. Supply is a single 2.7 – 3.6 V rail, and the parts are offered across several industrial temperature grades and package options.
Typical current is 6 mA during SPI read or write at 54 MHz and 100 µA in standby. Because endurance is effectively unlimited compared with Flash, the series suits data logging, event recording and configuration storage where writes are frequent and must survive power loss instantly.
